Beefebruary

February is not especially known as the sunshine month, but cold and/or wet weeks do engender rich savoury winter fayre.

Thus, Beefebruary was born.

Here are some delicious riffs on this theme.

Week 1

First up was this awesome steak and kidney pie - stout-based gravy - bitter and really fabulous.

Pastry is lard and butter puff. With mash and gravy..

Week 2

This one is a steak and mushroom pie. The mash with this one was perfect.

The juicy innards...

Week 3

Back to steak and kidney. Ribeye and lamb kidney.

Really, this was spectacular.

Foodporn shots...

Gravy aside, the layered puff was melty

Week 4

Surprisingly, the weather was warm eough for the first BBQ of the year...

Very hot searing is enough... Ribeye, again.

...with a garnish of sausages and double-fried Maris Piper chips

Weirdly, the next day was also lovely. Slight variation - Also ribeye, but with split sausage and deep fried hash browns and spinach.

Cross-section of tasty - almost burnt, seared surface with juicy innards...

Week 5

Everyone knows there are only four weeks in February, BUT thank you leap-year- sneaked an extra one in!

This one is another (ribeye) steak and kidney. This time, its pig kidney. A bit more bite than lamb.

With baked spuds and salad...

The gravy was perfect for wetness.
